Founded in 1913 by the Science Teachers’ Bureau, the Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest children’s museum in the world and one of the few that maintain a collection. Designed for both children and families, the Museum exhibits focus on science, culture, environmental awareness, health & fitness, and the arts, emphasizing hands-on engagement and learning through experience, and employing play as a tool to spark the inherent creativity, curiosity, and imagination of children.

The National Streetcar Museum at Lowell

The National Streetcar Museum is located on the campus of Lowell National Historical Park. In 1984, the park acquired some trolleys that run regularly on two miles of track in the downtown area of the city, one of them on loan from the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine. The history of trolleys in Lowell—and in general—is delivered through a number of interactive exhibits and displays, including one about the influence of street railways on the development of cities.
