9:30 am—Family History on your Smartphone or Tablet—Pam Holland  

Discover new ways to enhance your research and capture data. In this lecture you will find apps for family trees, DNA, note taking, family stories, oral history, cemeteries, managing book collections, picture and document scanning, and more.


10:45 am—DNA Painter and Chromosome Mapping—Pam Holland  

DNA Painter is a colorful, easy-to-use tool for understanding the chromosome segments you received from an ancestor. This free programs lets you map DNA segments and assign or "paint" them various colors on your different chromosomes. Learn how to create a chromosome map for your own research using DNA results from popular DNA testing sites.

1:00 pm—American Ancestors Databases & More—Jean Maguire

Learn how to make the best use of the nearly 500 databases, with over 1 billion searchable names, available on AmericanAncestors.org. This lecture will also provide information on the many other resources – from online learning opportunities to digital library collections – accessible on the website.  

2:30 pm—Federal Records Research—Linda MacIver

You haven't done that "reasonably exhaustive search" unless you include more than the usual federal records. It really is a myth that our families weren't important enough to be in records preserved at the National Archives!
